MS (Master of Science)

Unlike MBA, an MS SOP is written for fresher’s who may or may not have work experience in the particular field. So, what distinguishes their SOP is talking about the achievement they received in academics. The MS sop is technical.

An MS SOP must be academically sound, proving the candidate’s knowledge and experience in the field. The introductory paragraphs must be catchy and exciting. This will help the admission counselor to investigate whether you are a potential scholar or not. They will or can assess your contribution to the research field of your previous university.

Talk about yourself and the reasons for pursuing a Ph.D. The primary focus of this SOP must revolve around your research interest. Discuss the answers to questions such as; how is your passion or interest connected to your research? What are the reasons for choosing a particular research topic? What is the extensive background research you have conducted? Talk about surveys if necessary. If you are confused with the research topic, then express that dilemma with authenticity. Express your academic and background knowledge concerning the program chosen. Prove with your statements that you are eligible for this program. If you have a dissertation topic in your mind, then talk about it. Mention a professor from the university with whom you want to work in the future. Talk about their research and how it has intrigued you. If you are interested in teaching, express your views on that (only if the program renders teaching practices). Share your SOP with your friends, family, colleagues and ask for their views and opinions. This will help you analyse different perspectives of people and edit accordingly. Lastly, talk about what makes you unique for this program with respect to fellow candidates.

Don’t ever write your SOP at the last moment. Write with a course of time that will help you edit and re-edit if necessary. Do not indulge in too many personal statements (about your family, relationship, etc). Never demonstrate the wrong facts regarding your research in the SOP.
